41 years since the establishment of the dictatorship in Greece

41 years have passed since the 21st of April 1967, when the military dictatorship, called "The Regime of the Colonels" established in Greece. The dictatorship endured about 7 years until July 1974.

The cause of the dictatorship, as the colonels said, was the "communist threat". In 21st April 1967, just few days before the national elections, the army took all the power in the country. It was 5 am when the tanks of Greek army invade in the capital of Athens. The national broadcasting center was taken by the new power and was announcing the circumvention of the Constitution.

The 7 next years was a horrible era for the Greek people. Thousands of communists and democratic citizens were punished, imprisoned, tortured and sent to exile in isolated islands. The only law in Greece was the law of the dictators.

But the resistance of Greek people achieved to turn over this tyrannic regime. With many great examples of fight for the Democracy, among them the great student's demonstration in the School of Engineering in Athens, Greek people wrote their achievements with golden letters in the book of history of the people's struggles.

This day is a day of memory in Greece. The Communist Party of Greece organizes this year demonstrations and marches for this case. In Thessaloníki, the Society of Exiled and Imprisoned of the era 1967-1974, organizes a big event (concert) in Genti Cule, which was a prison, one place of torture.

Long live the democratic resistance of Greek people.

NO to the Euro-convention & the EU !!!

In October's 17th 2007, in Lisbon (Portugal), the 27 leaders of the state-members of the European Union approved unanimously of a new European Convention, as they named it.

The Greek government is being prepared, with summery procedure, to validate the new European Convention of Lisbon, without informing the Greek people for its consequences affecting their life, without asking for their approval.

The same thing happened with the Convention of Maastriht in 1992, that was the mould of the whole politics of the European Union, with negative consequences, against all people, the Greek too, in all aspects of their life concentrating extraordinary profits for the capital.

With the new Euro-convenetion, substantially comes back the European Constitution, after they have the same content and two (at least) people (French and Dutch) rejected it with referendum three years ago. This voted out constitutional convention was renamed Treaty of Lisbon, in order to they by-pass the referendums and to silence the opposition of people in EU and the strengthening of its powers. According to researches, the 70% of people in the 5 bigger state-members of EU asks for referendum, while the 61% declares complete ignorance for the ne Euro-convention. The plan of bypass people's will shows the scorn of their verdict.

In GREECE, many people, among them politicians, scientists, musicians, actors and members of public ranks, have signed the resolution asking referendum for the approval of the new Euro-convention.
